"Frags" are the machine’s perceptual logic sculpted into light and motion. A branch of "Native," they take the form of short, looping videos that capture the uncanny moment when AI simulates the rotation of translucent forms containing entire scenes. As these objects turn, the machine fabricates unseen surfaces and recalculates how light and color refract through them—an emergent behavior closer to an optics engine inventing its own physics than to animation. Each frag is an instance of two native AI gestures: "Optics Logic" and "Synthetic 3D." Like the early Cinema of Attractions, "Frags" hold attention through pure spectacle, reminding us that astonishment itself is part of cinema’s DNA. They also belong to digital video’s attraction—backlit, endlessly looping, built from emitted rather than reflected light, a medium where spectacle and luminosity converge. This genesis set also falls under "Faulty Topography," an homage to photography’s "New Topographics," a thematic chapter of "Native" where AI vision misreads "unappealing" terrain, maps, and infrastructure until orientation itself slips.
