Comments: We had driven from the sacred city of Bodh Gaya to the ancient city of Varanasi. Driving on the highway in India is different from anywhere else I had ever visited, though Cairo was close. In India the people speak with their beeps. To say hello, to pass by, to communicate a message to other drivers or riders. There were even some instances where on a separated two lane highway, cars would still be coming in your direction on your side going to opposite way! It was pure chaos, yet a divine order to the rules of the road here. There were none. Everyone is hyper aware, and people are coming from all directions and buses and trucks filled with people where they started pouring onto the roofs! Our driver made it safely to Varanasi. Found a random street corner in the Middle Eastern neighborhoods and dropped us off there. We were far away from where we needed to be dropped off. We walked for awhile until we realized we could flag down a rickshaw. There we met Dhiraj. He saved us from bring lost and brought us home to the hotel that used to be and old palace quarters right off the docks of Ganges river. He was a kind and gentle man and was thrilled to meet us Americans. We told him about the project and once we got out of the car I made a portrait of him and his Rickshaw. Thank you, Dhiraj. Inside the hotel we regrouped with Eli, Ethans brother again.
