Comments: Every time I visit Paris I see my pal Jean-Michel. For his portrait we met outside of Paris Photo in front of the Eiffel Tower. To me he represents this city so I wanted to be a tourist in the park and showcase him with the architectural symbol of the city. At night it twinkles, and I remember the first time I saw that sparkle. Paris is a bit like New York, it feels like home. A feminine city, a romantic place to sit in the parks with baguettes to feed the crows or walk alongside the Cien at night with the tungsten street glow. Jean was with his daughter Constance. I thought it would be a special gift to make a portrait of them together to remember this day, this time they have together while she is growing up. A father and his beloved daughter. Tourists in their home city with me. Have you ever been a tourist in yours? To see a place with fresh eyes, for the first time. As if you have not walked through it a thousand times. It is a simple state of mind. In the video he asked to make a portrait of me, so we turned the camera on each other and I show up for a millisecond with a faint smile. Jean and I always see art together whatever city we are in. He held space during a tough time for me last summer as we went through the life of Van Gogh in all the places he made his paintings. It was a semi-artist retreat. It felt like a walk through history, repeating it, only this time with a camera instead of a brush. A house filled with artists. Building friendships. A week of deep connection and fun, and a bit of healing. I love my friend Jean-Michel, who believes in me and my art. The kind man in the blue cap at grail capital.
