Comments: This time in Italy was a one way ride from the north to south. Starting in Venice and ending where my family is from, my fathers side of the Aversano fisherman heritage on the coast of Napoli. A self discovery into familial roots. To understand the nature and culture of where my father, Alfonso, is from. Diving into the country that my dad grew up. There are many Aversanos scattered across the Amalfi coast. There is a small town near Napoli called Averso. Is this a common link? Often last names were of people and the villages they were from. On my way to the south I stopped into the romantic city of Florence. Wandered through the night down different alleyways and plazas. In the morning I came across a watery dam that scattered droplets over a wall. I was suffering deeply at this place, the tears poured down my face as they water was running down the slope. The sun mirrored on the surface. It was terribly beautiful. What broke me down? My project being held hostage without any light at the end of the tunnel. How would you feel if the work you were bleeding, sweating, and working towards was held against you at ransom? Someone who was meant to help, turned to hurt. Why? It is not clear, greed and misfortune. I called my friend who helped me retrieve the film a few days later. Thankfully, it was saved by the angels. But, in that short time, it was hell with no way out. After wiping away my tears and got right up. My phone rang and it was my photography friend Giulio who was local to Florence. I drove to meet with him outside of the main city at this beautiful garden with a serene fountain. We walked and talked and made art at the fountain. From water to water, from Heaven to Hell, down from the bottom to the top of the hill. The water is carried from the Earth to our souls an back. A cycle of life, the motion of water moves fluidly, each drop in the ocean travels the world and back around. We are made of this water, as is our home planet. Water, just like love is our life force.
